Naturally over time sterling silver will slowly tarnish in contact with the air, so here are some tips on how to keep your silver looking its best.

A gentle clean with a soft cloth, ideally a jewellery polishing cloth, is ideal for polishing up any shiny parts of your sterling silver pieces.

Your jewellery can be cleaned with warm soapy water and a really soft toothbrush, rinsed and dried well with a soft cloth followed by a polishing cloth. For heavily tarnished items we recommend lining a bowl with tinfoil, shiny side up, and soaking in a tablespoon of baking soda and a tablespoon of salt with warm water. We avoid silver dips as they contain harsh chemicals and are not suitable for cleaning stone set pieces.

Try to not wear your jewellery in the shower, sea or pool as this will cause tarnishing. Damp and hot conditions will also cause your jewellery to tarnish, so it’s best not to leave it next to heating, window sills or in the bathroom.

Apply any perfume, body lotion or hair products before putting on your jewellery as the chemicals in these can cause your jewellery to tarnish.

When not being worn, store your jewellery out of exposure to the air to minimise tarnish. Anti-tarnish tabs are also great for storage.

Sterling Silver jewellery is fragile and should be handled with care. Repeated bending and adjusting can weaken the jewellery and cause it to break, therefore please keep adjustments to a minimum. We cannot be held responsible for damage caused by repeating bending.
